WHAT IS A DENTAL CROWN?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers your entire tooth. Dentists use crowns to restore teeth when a significant portion has been destroyed by decay, trauma, or excessive wear. Crowns can also serve cosmetic purposes, improving a tooth’s color, size, and shape.

To ensure a proper fit, your dentist will remove a small amount of enamel from the tooth before bonding the new crown in place. This custom-made restoration protects weakened teeth while restoring both function and appearance, giving you back a strong, natural-looking tooth.

Our porcelain crowns

Repair your cracked, broken, or fractured tooth.

At Manti Family Dental, our dental crowns have been specifically designed to protect your damaged tooth while restoring its function. They are also used to top dental implants or to create a dental bridge. Unsightly, old-style, porcelain/metal crowns have been replaced with today’s all-porcelain crowns, which look nearly identical to natural teeth. Plus, they have the added advantage of being strong and very durable.

Our innovative dental crown dentists use modern technology to create your custom-made crowns. They take precise impressions of your tooth and work with our partner lab to create breathtaking crowns. Our results are therefore more accurate and long-lasting, enabling you to resume your normal habits and smile with confidence.

Dental Crown Services FAQ

No, getting a crown isn’t painful. The dentist will numb the area, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the procedure. After it’s done, you might feel some sensitivity or discomfort for a few days, but that’s normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers. If it doesn’t go away or gets worse, talk to your dentist.

Getting a crown usually happens in a series of straightforward steps. Here’s the process:

  • Exam & X-rays – Your dentist checks the tooth and surrounding area to see if a crown is the best solution.

  • Numbing & tooth shaping – The tooth is numbed, then gently filed down so the crown will fit snugly.

  • Impression or digital scan – A mold or scan is taken to create a custom crown.

  • Temporary crown – If your permanent crown is being made in a lab, a temporary crown is placed for protection.

  • Lab fabrication – The dental lab makes your crown, usually taking about 1–2 weeks.

  • Fitting & adjustments – At your next visit, the temporary crown is removed, and the permanent one is tested for fit, bite, and comfort.

  • Final cementing – Once everything feels right, the crown is cemented into place and checked again.

Our crowns are made from porcelain, which is a top choice for its natural look and durability. Porcelain crowns blend in seamlessly with your other teeth, making them especially ideal for front teeth or anywhere a natural appearance matters most. They’re also strong enough for everyday chewing and help restore both function and confidence in your smile.
